WATCH THIS SITE FOR INFORMATION REGARDING THE 2010 TRAINING. THE DATES AND LOCATION WERE JUST FIRMED UP, WITH THE REGION 12 RTC, AND THIS TRAINING TO BE HELD AT CAMP ROBERTS, CAANG. WHILE RTC STARTS ON 4 JUL, WE WILL BEGIN THE DAY BEFORE TO GET SETTLED IN BEFORE THE RTC CADETS ARRIVE. THE MOST IMPORTANT DETAIL FOR PROSPECTIVE CADETS TO THIS TRAINING IS THE NEED TO CONTACT ME DIRECTLY BEFORE ANY PAPERWORK AND MONEY IS SENT. ADMISSION TO THIS TRAINING IS BY COTC APPROVAL ONLY.
2010 MASS COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST TRAINING
This Sea Cadet training, formerly known as Photojournalism, is patterned after the 2006 creation of this new US Navy career field. Formed from the combination of a number of other ratings, the MC Specialists are the Navy’s Public Affairs and Visual Information experts. Cadets will be learning these skills in support of the Region 12 RTC. Some of our activities include taking and editing pictures, interviewing, writing stories, making Powerpoint presentations, desktop publishing / graphic design, and website work. Cadets must be mature and able to take direction and complete individual tasks, as well as work in and around cadets-in-training and their staff without interference. Basic computer knowledge and very good communication skills are needed. Knoweldge of specific photo editing and desktop publishing programs is preferred.
These trainings will be held at Camp Roberts, California Army National Guard. This base is a former WWII training base, which is still being used for this purpose. The dates for RTC will be July 4-18, and the Mass Communication Specialist training will be run concurrently with RTC, but will start on July 3. While this base is not as picturesque as other locations, we will still have many great opportunities to record the life of RTC. We also are planning for a few field trips to meet with military media specialists from different services, along with some other interesting photo opportunities. We also plan to keep up what was started last year with our regular notes of activities during RTC. Last year this was titled: "Scuttlebutt from the Flight Deck," but I will leave it up to this year's cadets to come up with a new title.
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS TRAINING, WITH CADETS BEING GIVEN TASKS AROUND ANOTHER LARGE TRAINING, NEEDING TO WORK ON ASSIGNED PROJECTS, AND HAVING TO MOVE AROUND A LARGE BASE THAT HAS MULTIPLE UNITS ABOARD FOR TRAININGS ON THE WAY TO DEPLOYMENTS, STRONG PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO OLDER, MORE MATURE CADETS. APPROVAL FOR SENDING ORDERS REQUESTS MUST BE GRANTED BEFORE PAPERWORK AND MONEY WILL BE ACCEPTED. CADETS (NOT THE UNIT STAFF OR FAMILY DOING THIS FOR THE CADET) INTERESTED IN THIS TRAINING MUST CONTACT THE COTC PRIOR TO SENDING ANY REQUESTS FOR ORDERS. Requests/money received without prior approval will be returned.
